One of the questions I used to get the most was why did I change the Sofrito For Your Soul website to blog format. One of the things you will learn about me if you do not already know id that I am a Urban Jibaro techie nerd…(I need to fashion a "pava style" pocket protector). I changed the site in an attempt to grab a broader range of readers and because I believe that most people are not as culturally connected because their lives are so busy…and RSS was a tool that can help them get access to a lot of information in a fraction of the time it will take you to surf all the sites you like. I use RSS on my blackberry curve (via Viigo) and via my Gmail acct.

Por si no lo sabia…RSS means Real Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary.

In a nutshell, to benefit from RSS you use the address of the feed of the website you like…and you add it to your Gmail Acct RSS feed section and the stories you like are downloaded to you automatically…no need to visit every site looking for updates…they come to you. All you need to do is look for the orange RSS icon like the one below to know that the site has an RSS feed.

I made it even easier for my readers…I use Feedburner's Email Feed Service, so you do not need to program anything…just add your email below…and you get all of our updates as often as we post them.

It has been so liberating to get the weather, the news, my tech news and updates from my favorite blogs like VIVIR LATINO through the magic of RSS. Since I get it on my blackberry, i technically do not even need a computer…and I can read it at my leisure. On a sidenote…I like this highlighting tool…

RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works such as blogentries, news headlines, audio, and video in a standardized format.[2] An RSS document (which is called a "feed," "web feed,"[3] or "channel") includes full or summarized text plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content quickly and automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites intoplace.

RSS feeds can be read using software called an "RSS reader," "feed reader," or an "aggregator," which can be web-based or desktop-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs. The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.
