Art for Change is excited
to be hosting its 2nd annual "Hacia Afuera" public arts festival, a
collection of dance and music performances, art workshops for kids and
adults, site-specific art installations and interactive media pieces,
and an open-mic event. Come join us in this celebration of
community-made and community-shared art.
East
Harlem-El Barrio is a neighborhood with a long history of public art,
from street theater to murals. In recent years, gentrification has
become a reality for many of its residents and thus Hacia Afuera is to
be used as a vehicle to reclaim the public space — be it a garden, a
sidewalk, or various walls, in celebration of its cultural diversity.
Just
a few of the scheduled events: Live performances from Ben Carroll,
Exit She Calls, and Lily Vasquez; Percussion workshop conducted by
Geraldo Flores; Youth Choir; Open-Mic; Yoga demo … and much more!
Thank you to everyone who is already scheduled to volunteer!
We
still need some people to help out on the days of the event: taking
some casual photos (any digital camera will do), community garden
volunteers, some random running around, and helping to set-up and
clean-up.
